‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 3’ director wants Jim Carrey as the new Freddy Krueger

In an interview with Dread Centralthe director Chuck Russell (‘A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors’) revealed that he would love to direct a new film in the franchise’Nightmare on Elm Street‘.

The filmmaker expressed his desire to reunite with the actors Patricia Arquette e Robert Englundbut was surprised when considering the star Jim Carrey to bring the iconic Freddy Krueger to life.

“To me, Robert Englund is the only possible Freddy Krueger. If I were involved in a new ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ film, my first goal would be to secure his involvement. But in my opinion, Jim Carrey can do almost anything he wants. If he agreed (to play Freddy Krueger), we would have to do something different with the franchise – something similar to what Wes Craven did in the seventh film. I believe Jim would only consider playing the role if there was a bold new direction for the saga.”

He completes, “I would love to direct a new film in the franchise if I had everyone’s support. Patricia Arquette recently said that she would love to return to the saga. It’s very interesting, as she hasn’t commented much on the franchise throughout her career. She’s fantastic and has become a big star – I think her return would be a great idea.”

Previously, the producer Jason Blum confessed that he still hopes to develop new films from the franchises’Friday the 13th‘ e ‘Nightmare on Elm Street‘: “(The) ‘Friday the 13th’ and ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ franchises are my white whales. We’re still discussing that possibility. I’m always in contact (with the rights holders). I’ll never give up. And if they make a movie without me, I’ll be there trying to be a part of the next one.”

The most recent film in the franchise, the 2010 remake, grossed more than US$115 million worldwide – from a budget of just US$35 million. Despite its success at the box office, the new version was a failure among critics, bitter 14% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
