Actor Sandro Rocha, known for playing Major Rocha in Elite Troopstated that he had no intention of criticizing Wagner Moura after the repercussion of a video in which he comments on the list of Brazilian films recommended by his colleague. Moura had indicated Bye bye brasil, Foreign Land e Dry Lives as works that everyone should watch. On social media, Rocha said he just wanted to “make a statement” by remembering productions that, according to him, cannot be forgotten.
“Talking about cinema and not touching Elite Troop e City of God… you are trying to erase the population’s memory. They already do this in so many other areas, in this area I can’t let it go unnoticed”, he declared. Elsewhere, the actor reinforced that he has no personal disagreement with Wagner Moura. “It was missing City of Godclassic and anthological, and Trope of Elite I and II. Never let these three films be forgotten. I know there are those who want to erase reality through ideology, but we are still here”, he stated, referring to I’m Still Herewinner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, set during the period of the military dictatorship.
The two artists have different political positions. Moura is identified with left-wing agendas and supports President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, while Rocha has already declared support for former President Jair Bolsonaro.
