After two consecutive weeks with the worst audiences of the year, the last weekend showed a slight improvement in the number of tickets sold and all thanks to three premieres, which occupied the podium of the most watched films in the period. Tron: Ares (Disney), Gabby’s Magic House – The Movie (Universal) and the national Perrengue Fashion (Downtown/Paris) together, they sold just over 500 thousand tickets, alleviating the negative results obtained previously. The information is from Comscore.
The one who led was Tron: Areswhich opened with 233.3 thousand tickets, followed by Gabby’s Magic House (163.5 thousand) and Perrengue Fashion (115.7 thousand). Together, the features were responsible for around 60% of the 841 thousand tickets sold in Brazil in the last four days. In fact, these were the only films that brought at least 100,000 people to cinemas during the period.
Looking from a “glass half full” perspective, it was an interesting improvement compared to the 737 thousand and 639 thousand attendances that the previous two weekends had.
After a very busy month of September, with 8.23 million spectators between September 4th and October 1st (36th to 39th cinematic week of the year), almost equaling the mark of 8.88 million in the same period of 2019 (the same cinematic weeks, but from September 5th to October 2nd), the current October represents a sharp drop in national cinemas. On the other hand, it is important to remember that historically the industry experiences ups and downs and that the month of October tends to be a little weaker. The numbers in this paragraph were taken from the Ancine Cinema and Audiovisual Observatory.
The ones that continue to have a good campaign are Warner’s feature films, with emphasis on The Conjuring 4: The Last Ritualwhich reached 4.5 million tickets sold since its debut. One Battle After Anotherin turn, surpassed the 300,000 audience mark in total.
Two other important highlights in Brazil were the national feature film Malês (Imovision)which has accumulated 60.2 thousand spectators since it went on air; and the Rio Festivalwhich ended yesterday (12) and generated, in total, almost R$ 750 thousand in its 45 thousand tickets sold.
Outside Brazil, the debuts were also highlights. In this case, who accompanied the leader Tron: Ares he was The Good Bandit (Diamond Films)which goes on display nationwide this week. It was not a memorable weekend in the United States, without more highlights, demonstrating that the small exhibition crisis is not exclusive to Brazil.
Worldwide, Tron: Ares also led. But it is noteworthy that, again, Asia was well represented, with two Japanese films, two Chinese films and one Indian film.
Brazil
Of the 841.1 thousand tickets sold in the period, 233.3 thousand went to Tron: Ares. Completing the podium: Gabby’s Magical House – The Movie (163.5 thousand) and Perrengue Fashion (115,7 mil).
The Conjuring 4: The Last Ritual it was seen by over 64.9 thousand people and reached 4.5 million viewers in total. One Battle After Another had 42.4 thousand paying customers, making the film reach a total audience of 325.9 thousand.
Animations continue to be on the rise in Brazil. The greatest anime of all time, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Castelo Infinito (Sony)sold over 36.8 thousand tickets and reached a total of 2.2 million. Zoopocalypse – An Animal Adventure (Diamond Films)in turn, had 24.2 thousand spectators and now has 135.2 thousand.
Already the Rio Festival came to an end, but not before moving another 21 thousand tickets, which generated R$ 378.7 thousand. In total, the event attracted 45,600 people, generating revenue of R$ 742,600.
Complete the national ranking Malês (16.9 thousand and 60.2 thousand in total), and Fighter’s Heart – The Smashing Machine (Diamond Films)with 11.5 thousand tickets sold and 80.5 thousand attendance since its debut.
