5 films about the conflict highlighted at the São Paulo Film Festival

The 49th São Paulo International Film Festival screens 374 titles from 80 countries. Among such diversity, five of them will show the public more details about the history and reality of Palestine, a place that was at war with Israel and only recently came under a ceasefire.

With Hasan in Gaza

The rediscovery of three MiniDV tapes, recorded in Gaza in 2001, gave rise to a documentary that is as much an archaeological piece as it is a cinematic meditation. The film “With Hasan in Gaza” has as its starting point the director’s search for a former prison companion from 1989, a man who disappeared in the turmoil of war.

More than a simple historical record, the documentary edits and reframes this archival material, converting it into a reflection on memory, loss and the passage of time. The images function as traces of a past Gaza, evoking lives and landscapes that have since been irreversibly altered by the conflict.
