If there’s one thing I won’t give up, it’s taking advantage of a dark, silent night to watch good horror films. And the HBO Max has been surpassing itself more and more in the genre’s catalog, bringing everything from classics to bloody releases that made me jump off the couch more than once. I prepared this selection with four works that really scared me and that I recommend to anyone who wants to feel their heart really race!
I gathered titles that I tested to the fullest: I watched them alone (bad idea!), I thought about them for days and I even avoided looking in the mirror at certain times. If you’re going to watch it, here’s a tip: watch it with the lights off and prepare to sleep with one eye open!
👀 Hey, have you seen the HBO Max launches this October?
1. Sinners (2025)
This was, without a doubt, the most talked about horror of 2025. Directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan in a dual role, “Sinners” mixes elements of dramatic horror, supernatural tension and family drama. The atmosphere of constant threat and unexpected twists made my night restless. The film goes beyond traditional horror and touches on deep traumas, captivating from beginning to end. Not surprisingly, it was acclaimed by both critics and fans and became the subject of several frightened conversations after I watched it.

2. Evil (2021)
One of the most insane experiences I’ve ever had with horror! Directed by James Wan, “Malignant” subverts expectations and delivers a story about Madison, who begins to have visions of violent murders linked to a morbid secret from her past. The feeling of not knowing what to expect in each scene left me glued to the screen and afraid of any strange noise at home. The last twist is breathtaking.

3. Evil Dead: The Rise (2023)
This reinterpretation of the franchise Evil Dead It’s pure savagery and blood! The horror is claustrophobic, the mutilations are explicit and the family atmosphere that quickly turns into a battle for survival left me tense from beginning to end. At times, I needed to pause just to breathe. It’s a film that gives you that feeling that “no one is safe”.

4. Hereditary (2018)
If you like deep psychological horror, “Hereditary” is mandatory. Toni Collette delivers one of the best performances of the genre, in a perfect script about family tragedies and evil forces lurking around. The film is heavy, disturbing, and some of the scares are so authentic that I literally choked on my popcorn. To this day, some scenes just won’t leave my head.
